On 15 June 2015, the Supreme Court cancelled the AIPMT test that was conducted by the CBSE on 3 May 2015 due to allegations of large-scale irregularities(read the full judgment). The Supreme Court directed the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) to conduct the retest for AIPMT within four weeks. However, now there are reports that CBSE may not be in a position to conduct AIPMT exam again at least till November 2015. CBSE is likely to approach the Supreme Court for extension of time for the retest.
Latest update (19 June 2015): Supreme Court extends time for retest of AIPMT 2015 and directs CBSE to declare results by 17 August 2015.
[Update (18 June 2015): AIPMT retest – CBSE seeks more time from Supreme Court to conduct re-exam.]
TOI has quoted Satbir Bedi, officiating chairman of CBSE, as saying that a minimum of seven months is needed for preparation of the examination. He said that for the 3 May 2015 examination, the preparations had started from August 2014. The sources in AIMPT cell in CBSE have also said that the earliest the CBSE can conduct the AIPMT examination will be in November 2015.
However, there is a difference here. Seven months may be needed for a fresh examination, including time for notification, filing applications, sending admit cards, setting papers, and making all other preparations. This time, because it is a retest, there may not be a need to file the applications again. All candidates who had appeared in the 3 May 2015 test should automatically become eligible for the retest. No further applications may be needed. Secondly, I don’t think CBSE will be able to collect exam fee again for the retest since the exam was cancelled due to CBSE failure to ensure fairness. So, at least 3-4 months’ time is saved on filing of application forms, etc. Yes, the admit cards will have to be issued again to the same candidates, with new test centres, if needed. Paper will have to be set again. Other preparations, such as exam centres, will also be needed. Therefore, at least 3-4 months’ time is what may be needed. It should be kept in mind that a hurried retest may again lead to malpractices and irregularities in the absence of full preparations.
Moreover, 4 weeks’ time is too short even for the candidates to prepare again for the AIPMT retest.
In view of these reasons, it may be necessary to allow about 3-4 months’ time to CBSE to conduct the AIPMT exam again. But, the CBSE should not waste any further time and approach the SC immediately for extension of the retest time schedule so that everything becomes clear at the earliest and the candidates do not remain in dark.
