SC asks Haryana Police to identify beneficiaries of All India Pre-Medical Test paper leak

The vacation bench of the Supreme Court, comprising of Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, has directed the Haryana Police to identify the beneficiaries of the paper leak of the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) which was held on 3rd May 2015. This order came today (21 May 2015) during the hearing of two writ petitions wherein irregularities in the AIPMT test were pointed out to the court. As reported earlier, on 18th May 2015, the Supreme Court had issued Notice in the writ petition seeking cancellation of the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) that was conducted on 3rd May 2015 over allegations that its paper was leaked in Haryana.

Latest Update (15 June 2015): 15 June – AIPMT exam cancelled by Supreme Court, re-test to be conducted by CBSE within 4 weeks.

AIPMT Judgment: Tanvi Sarwal v. Central Board of Secondary Education, Supreme Court Judgment, 15 June 2015.

The court observed that if the beneficiaries of the irregularities of paper leak could be identified and segregated from the genuine candidates, then there would not be a need to cancel the whole AIPMT test.

The Supreme Court asked the Haryana Police to submit a fresh progress report from the Haryana police by May 26, 2015 when the matter shall be taken up for further arguments. It also directed the police of all the states and telecom service providers to render all possible assistance to Haryana police in nabbing the culprits.

Earlier, the police had informed the court that 6 accused had been arrested so far but the kingpin was still at large and that more than 70 mobile phones were used across the country by the accused to transmit answers. These phones were destroyed soon after the AIPMT test got over on 3 May 2015.

It is pertinent to point out that the petitioner has prayed before the court that the All India Pre-Medical /  Pre-Dental test conducted on May 3, 2015 be quashed, test be re-held within a reasonable period of time, guilty are brought to book and responsibility be fixed. Additionally, in order to prevent such devious attempts, a committee of experts should be constituted to submit recommendations that should be accepted by the Medical Council of India.
