3 June: AIPMT paper leak re-exam : Supreme Court stays declaration of results by CBSE till 10 June

Today, on 3 June 2015, the vacation bench of the Supreme Court, comprising of Justice Prafulla C. Pant and Justice Amitava Roy, asked the CBSE not to declare the results of All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) till 10 June 2015. Thus, the declaration of the AIPMT results has been stayed for the time being till 10 June 2015.  It is pertinent to point out that the AIPMT results were to be declared by CBSE by 5 June 2015. But, the Supreme Court said that it will decide the fate of the AIPMT examination on June 10 because it wants some tangible information so that the court could take the decision whether or not to conduct the re-examination / re-test of AIPMT. For that purpose, the court has granted one week time to Haryana Police to ascertain number of beneficiaries who allegedly indulged in cheating.

Latest update (19 June 2015): Supreme Court extends time for retest of AIPMT 2015 and directs CBSE to declare results by 17 August 2015.

Update (15 June 2015): 15 June – AIPMT exam cancelled by Supreme Court, re-test to be conducted by CBSE within 4 weeks.

AIPMT Judgment: Tanvi Sarwal v. Central Board of Secondary Education, Supreme Court Judgment, 15 June 2015.

There are three writ petitions pending in the Supreme Court relating to the AIPMT paper leak case and all these petitions were heard together today as Item No. 6 by the Vacation Bench of the Supreme Court. These petitions are:

  1. W.P.(C) NO. 298/2015 [Tanvi Sarwal vs. Central Board Of Secondary Education And Ors.]
  2. W.P.(C) NO. 299/2015 [Jahnvi Shanker & Ors. vs. Union of India & Ors.]
  3. W.P.(C) NO. 305/2015 [Adeeba Ahmed vs. Union of India & Ors.]

On the last date on 26 May 2015, the Supreme Court had shown reluctance to direct holding the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) afresh following paper-leak allegations in the 3 May 2015 AIPMT test and it had directed the Haryana Police to expedite its probe in the paper-leak case to track the beneficiaries of the irregularities in the examination. The court had also felt that if the beneficiaries of the irregularities could be identified, then there would be no need for conducting the re-examination, observing that any direction for conducting the AIPMT examination afresh would create large scale chaos.

It is pertinent to point out that as reported earlier, on 18 May 2015, the Supreme Court had issued Notice in the writ petition seeking cancellation of the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) that was conducted on 3 May 2015 over allegations that its paper was leaked in Haryana. On the next date of hearing on 21 May 2015, the Supreme Court had directed the Haryana Police to identify beneficiaries of the AIPMT paper leak.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSC) which conducted the AIPMT Examination, had earlier announced that after evaluating the Answer Sheets it was likely to declare the result by 5 June, 2015. This result will be hosted on website http://aipmt.nic.in/aipmt/Welcome.aspx. This means that only two days are left now for its earlier tentative deadline for declaration of results to end.
