Final arguments in Uber rape case trial from September 21

After the Supreme Court set aside order to re-examine witnesses in Uber rape case on 10 September, the trial court of Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja in Delhi today (15 September) fixed September 21 as the date to hear final arguments in the trial case relating to the alleged rape of a woman executive by an Uber cab driver. This matter has now been listed for September 21, 2015, for hearing final arguments in the case.

The Supreme Court on Thursday had set aside the Delhi High Court order permitting the recall and re-examination of 13 witnesses including the victim in the Uber cab rape case.

According to police, the woman executive was allegedly raped by 32-year-old Shiv Kumar Yadav on the night of December 5, 2014, in the cab she hired to head back home in north Delhi’s Inderlok area. The accused drove the woman to an isolated place and allegedly raped her.

The court had on January 13 framed charges of rape, causing grievous bodily harm and endangering the life of a woman, besides other, against Yadav under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

So, the trial in this case is finally likely to be completed shortly since what remains after the final arguments is the judgment of the trial court. Examination of witnesses had already been completed earlier, and as mentioned above, the Supreme Court had set aside the order of the Delhi High Court to re-examine 13 witnesses.
