Can a Magistrate court grant bail in a case of cheating under Section 420 of the penal code? Or the bail is to be granted by District Court only?

Yes. The Magistrate has the power under Section 437 of the Criminal Procedure Code to grant bail to a person accused of an offence under Section 420 of IPC.

Of course, the Sessions Court also has the power to grant bail to such accused person under Section 439 of the Cr.P.C.
