In a pat for the CBI, the Supreme Court on Friday appreciated the investigation it is undertaking into the Vyapam cases – involving irregularities in admission and recruitment in Madhya Pradesh – even as Congress leader Digvijaya Singh told the court that in last four months the investigating agency has made no arrests.
The words of appreciation for the work done by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) came from the bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu, Justice S.A. Bobde and Justice Amitava Roy as it perused the status report on the investigation done by the investigating agency so far. The report was given in a sealed cover.
Noting that “so many people have been examined and so many things have happened”, Chief Justice Dattu said: “We are satisfied with the progress you have made.”
Appearing for Digvijaya Singh, senior counsel Kapil Sibal told the court that though CBI took over the investigations four months back but so far no one has been arrested. “I don’t see any action on the ground.”
Telling Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar about the court’s satisfaction with the work done by the investigating agency, Chief Justice Dattu observed that “Kapil Sibal is not satisfied”.
In his application, Digvijaya Singh has sought direction that all complaints relating to Vyapam admission and recruitment scan made by the public at large on or before July 9, 2015, be handed over to the CBI.
Besides that, he has also sought that all the status reports relating to investigations by the SIT/STF filed before the Madhya Pradesh High Court also be handed over to the CBI.
Digvijaya Singh has also sought direction to high court to handover the pen drive and truth lab report to CBI for its consideration.
Meanwhile Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi apprised the court about the steps being taken by the government to add more people to augment the strength of the CBI and fill the existing vacancies.
Giving more time to CBI, the court directed the listing of the matter on November 23. [IANS]
