Newly enrolled Advocates not passing All India Bar Examination may lose licence to practice

As per an order of a division bench of the Madras high court, comprising of Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, all Advocates who have enrolled in various State Bar Councils after 2010 and have not passed the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) may lose their licence to practice. An advocate from Madurai, V. Ramesh had stated in his petition that the legal profession was being polluted with individuals enrolling themselves as advocates by buying LL.B. degrees for a meagre price in universities of other States.

As reported by the Hindu,  the high court observed that in case of advocates enrolled after the AIBE examination system had come into place in 2010, there was a requirement of clearing the AIBE examination within a period of three years, and anyone who has not cleared the exam within that period, the licence of that person has to be necessarily revoked.
