4 new judges to join Delhi High Court

Four new judges have been approved for appointment to Delhi High Court, according to a Times of India report. The President of India is learnt to have signed the warrants for their appointment under Article 217(1) of the Constitution of India. With these new judges, the actual strength of Delhi High Court will rise to 40. At present, Delhi High Court has 36 judges including the Chief Justice (see details of the present judges here).

These newly appointed judges are likely to take oath on Monday (15 December 2014). They will be administered oath of the office of Judge of High Court by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Ms. G. Rohini.

The newly appointed judges are:

(1) Shri P.S. Teji, who is presently District & Sessions Judge of Karkardooma Court (East district) in Delhi.

(2) Shri I.S. Mehta, who is presently District & Sessions Judge of Patiala House Court (New Delhi district) in Delhi.

(3) Shri R.K. Gauba, who is presently District & Sessions Judge of Dwarka Court (South district) in Delhi.

(4) Ms. Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, who is presently the Registrar General of Delhi High Court since 16.04.2013.

All of them are members of the Delhi Higher Judicial Services. This means that no Advocate has been elevated as judge of the High Court in the new list.
