Anticipatory bail petition of former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti dismissed by court

As reported earlier, Delhi’s former law minister and AAP leader Somnath Bharti was recently booked in a criminal case on his wife’s complaint. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg here today (14 September 2015) dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Somnath Bharti for the offence of domestic violence. The court refused to grant him anticipatory bail.

Bharti was on Thursday (10 September) named in a First Information Report (FIR) filed under several sections of the Indian Penal code (IPC), including domestic violence and attempt to murder, at Dwarka North police station in west Delhi. Police said they filed the FIR following the June 10 complaint of Bharti’s wife Lipika Mitra. It was alleged in the complaint that Bharti has been abusing her ever since their marriage in 2010. She also claimed that Bharti beat and tortured her and once even tried to kill her.
