Taskforce formed for rehabilitation policy for trafficked victims, says Delhi Commission for Women

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday (5 October 2015) said it has formed a taskforce which would draft a rehabilitation policy for human trafficking victims. “Till date there was no policy for the rehabilitation of trafficking victims in the government. We have formed a task force to draft the rehabilitation policy,” said DCW chief Swati Maliwal in a statement issued after participating in the first meet of the state level committee formed for rehabilitation of sex workers and combat trafficking.

“Under the policy, trafficking victims will be facilitated with skill development and professional placement,” she said.

The meeting was headed by Delhi Chief Secretary K.K. Sharma. The committee was constituted as per the direction of the Supreme Court in 2012. However, no meeting of the committee was held till date.

Maliwal suggested during the meet that organisations such as Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assochom), PHD Chambers of Commerce could be approached for facilitating Corporate Social Responsibility help for rehabilitation.

In the meeting, the chief secretary asked Delhi Police to form a strong information system so that trafficking victims from G.B. Road and other areas could be rescued.

Sharma also sought to know from police on the number of cases of trafficking in which FIR was filed and the accused were convicted.

“It was also decided to form a national database of traffickers. Also Delhi Government will sign MOUs with other states to facilitate easy restoration of girls,” the statement added.
