Supreme Court to hear plea for CBI probe in Vyapam scam of Madhya Pradesh

A bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu, Justice Arun Kumar Mishra and Justice Amitava Roy, today (7 July 2015) agreed to hear on July 9 the plea of Congress leader Digvijay Singh and three other persons seeking Supreme Court monitored CBI probe into the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh. Three other persons who have moved the Supreme Court asking for a CBI investigation into the Vyapam scam are: Ashish Chaturvedi, Dr Anand Rai and Prashant.

The petition, filed by a group of lawyers, have sought removal of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav on the ground of his alleged involvement in the massive admission and recruitment scam in the state and recording of his statement in the case.

It is noteworthy that about 45 persons have died in mysterious circumstances connected with the said Vyapam case. Vyapam scam is a multi-crore rupees professional examination scam, involving several high-profile professionals, politicians and bureaucrats as accused. Even the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Ram Naresh Yadav, was involved in an FIR registered in one of the Vyapam scam cases.

Meanwhile, due to public outcry, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan today agreed for a CBI investigation into the Vyapam case saying that he will request the high court for that purpose.
