Order on charge in coal scam case against Kamal Sponge on October 1

A special court at New Delhi, headed by Special Judge Bharat Parashar, which is hearing coal block allocation case allegedly involving Kamal Sponge Steel and Power Ltd (KSSPL) fixed October 1, 2015, to deliver order on issue of framing of charges against the accused. This case against KSSPL relates to the alleged irregularities in the allocation of the Thesgora-B Rudrapuri coal block in Madhya Pradesh to it.

CoalFormer coal secretary in the Central Government, H.C. Gupta, the Madhya Pradesh-based Kamal Sponge, its director Pavan Ahluwalia and senior official Amit Goyal are facing trial in this case.

The CBI had lodged an FIR accusing the company and others of allegedly misrepresenting facts, including inflated net worth, to acquire coal blocks. After a probe, the agency filed a closure report, saying it did not find sufficient evidence against the firm and its director to proceed with the case. However, the special court had rejected the Central Bureau of Investigation’s closure report and had taken cognizance in the case.
