File FIR against Mulayam Singh on complaint of IPS Amitabh Thakur, Lucknow court tells police

The chief judicial magistrate of Lucknow, Som Prabha Mishra, today (16 September) accepted a complaint filed by UP cadre IPS officer Amitabh Thakur and directed police to file an FIR against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav under appropriate sections. The CJM accepted the application of the Indian Police Service officer, who alleged that Yadav had threatened him over phone on July 10, 2015, and directed the inspector of the Hazratganj police station to register a first information report (FIR). The court also directed that the matter be investigated and a report be presented before the court.

Mulayam Singh YadavBefore the court’s direction, Thakur’s counsel Akhilesh Kumar Awasthi presented copies of the FIR and charge sheet regarding the Jasrana case where then MLA Ramveer Singh had “criminally assaulted” Thakur, who was the then Superintendent of Police of Firozabad.

The IPS official, now under suspension and facing many probes ever since he filed the complaint against Mulayam Yadav, had approached Hazratganj police station inspector Vijaymal Singh Yadav on July 11 and Lucknow Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pandey on July 23 when Hazratganj police allegedly failed to register an FIR.

The Hazratganj inspector, however, intimated Thakur through a letter dated July 17 that his complaint was inquired into and found to be not true.

Calling this inquiry made by police as being against law, Thakur then filed a complaint before the CJM on July 31. The court sought details on the matter from police twice but they did not give their version on the matter. So, now comes the direction to register FIR.
