Lawyers from the six District Courts in Delhi (Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Rohini, Dwarka, Karkardooma and Saket) have gone on indefinite strike with effect from 21st July 2015 (i.e., the day the Monsoon session of the Parliament began) to press for the demand of rise in the pecuniary jurisdiction of the district courts in Delhi from the existing ₹ 20 lakh to ₹ 2 crore. It is noteworthy that Rajya Sabha had passed Bill to increase pecuniary jurisdiction of Delhi High Court on 6th May 2015, but the Lok Sabha is yet to pass this Bill.

Delhi High CourtdeThe Delhi High Court (Amendment) Bill, 2014 [which will amend the Delhi High Court Act, 1966], was listed for legislative business in the Lok Sabha on 21st July (yesterday) as well on 22nd July (today), however, the Bill could not be taken up for discussion so far.

Meanwhile, the work in all six District Courts was completely paralyzed. There were hardly any advocates seen in the court rooms. Lawyers from these courts have threatened to boycott the judicial work till the said Amendment Bill is passed by the Parliament.
