AAP MLA Bhavna Gaur summoned by court for misrepresenting about academic background

Another Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA faced trouble over her educational qualifications with the Delhi court of Metropolitan Magistrate Pankaj Sharma today (16 September) issuing summons to AAP legislator Bhavna Gaur, accused of misrepresenting facts about her academic background. The court issued summons to Gaur, seeking her appearance before it on October 1, on a complaint filed by lawyer Samarendra Nath Verma against the Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Palam assembly constituency.

Aam Aadmi PartyVerma had complained that Gaur had furnishing different information about her educational qualifications in her two election affidavits — in 2013 and 2015.

According to the complaint, Gaur in 2013 claimed to be Class 12 pass, but in the 2015 affidavit, she mentioned that she was a Delhi University graduate and holding a Bachelor of Education degree from Maharshi Dayanand University in Haryana’s Rohtak.

The petitioner sought action against Gaur for offences under the Representation of the People Act.

“After perusal of the entire material on record and considering the submissions made by the complainant, the court finds prima facie sufficient grounds to proceed against accused Bhavna Gaur,” the court said, observing the complainant while being examined as witness reiterated the facts of the complaint.

The complainant’s counsel also submitted that Gaur has herself furnished the false information in her own handwriting and it was not a typographical error.
