Registered sale deed shows wrong area of land, what should be done?

In a land purchased by me, the sale deed which is now registered shows wrong details of the area of the land. I am facing problems in getting mutation of the land done in my name. Please suggest what can be done in such situation and whether there is any way out other than cancelling the sale deed.

There is no need to cancel the original sale deed. You can execute a rectification deed between the same parties to rectify or correct the wrong details mentioned in the original sale deed. A rectification deed is a supplementary document meant to rectify errors of a factual or typographical nature in the original deed.
